Down and dirty birds : Shot mornings of 4 and 23 Feb.2010. Birds are not the only ones down. Shot with D300,500vr w/TC1.7 Molar beanbag and D300s 300 2.8vr w/tc1.7 handheld from the prone position in the mud and swamp weeds. Some inherent problems with shooting from 6 inches off the ground. Getting a clear shot for one! Lots of fun. Also playing with CP on the 500vr.

Eagles and other BoP : I had seen a couple of White bellied Sea Eagles in the last few years. Now I am seeing many different types of Birds of Prey. Many thanks to Joseph Zuzarte for giving me some invaluable local knowledge. If anyone knows what they are please answer up(leave comment).

16 Dec 2009..blue sky and white clouds for a change : Woke up to some lovely skies so decided to go looking for Osprey, Eagles and marsh Harriers. All shots with the 500vr are handheld(not something I will do a lot of!). The Roller with the 500vr was shot from the jeep but no beanbag.

Death of a Pond, the Lake is dead.. : In 1998 the Pond was a Lake. Slowly, more houses and even a small village have grown up around the lake. Now the property developers have found that people will pay big money to live in such a beautiful location. Unfortunately they do not realize that they are killing the location with sewage, filling the water sources and drilling bore wells. Update-The Pond was in enough trouble but a couple of months ago the situation got worse. After the monsoon the Pond is pretty full and I got two days of all of the returning migrants. Unreal number of birds and types. I went back a week later and the Pond was almost empty of water and wildlife. There is a sluice gate and canal system which allows the very local farmers to use water for their fields. The gate as wide open and not at a time when the frmers needed the water. Foul play by someone!!!!

The Little Family Grebe : The Little Grebes are growing up. Two snakes in the pond today. I was so low and they were at over 100' so getting focus on them was tough. The few Lessor-Whiltling Ducks , a couple of Jacans and the adult Grebes kept a close watch. The Serpent Eagles were nowhere to be seen. the adult Grebes were catching fish, and frogs to feed the little ones(6 of them).
